“At a time when the currents of bigotry and anger and isolationism are on the rise, when too many are quick to cast blame on the outsider, on the other, (and the promise of peace might seem like a distant dream, it’s my hope, my sincere hope, that each of us continues to hold Shimon’s memory very close,” the Vice President said Thursday at a memorial service held at Adas Israel on Thursday, October 6, 2016.

Our Congregation, with its historic past and exciting future, is proud, humbled, and grateful to have stood in solidarity with President Obama, and Jewish communities around the world today — teaching insights from our Torah, with heartfelt prayers that peace & security, happiness & prosperity, justice & freedom may forever abide in our midst.

In celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month, the Congregation was thrilled to welcome President Barack Obama, who delivered powerful remarks at Adas Israel Congregation on Friday morning, May 22 in the Charles E. Smith Sanctuary. The President’s visit also coincides with the Lantos Foundation’s Solidarity Sabbath, when government officials in Europe and North America take part in synagogue visits and other events to highlight their commitment to combating anti-Semitism.
